Gids Address Book - User Manual
Purpose
The application objective is to improve the quality (ie. the correctness, completeness, and
timeliness) of a number of data items in the user’s contact list. The application can be used in
conjunction with different internet accounts that support contact lists. For more information
see the user manual, a link to which can be found on the main application view ().
Method
The application synchronizes a number of the user’s own contact data items with those of
other contacts connected by the user. The shared contact data items are first- and lastname,
(home) email address, and (mobile) phone number. These data items are found on the contact
card which has been designated as My Info in the contact list which has been designated as
the Default Account (both settings can be found in the iPhone Settings >> Apps >> Contacts).
Exchange of contact data between two users only takes place after both users have been
connected by the other user.
Account
Users are identified by means of a unique code that belongs to an account to be setup by the
user. Accounts are created using an email address and password (Sign Up), which thereafter
are used to authenticate the user (Sign In). Use a working email address, as resetting lost or
forgotten passwords is done by sending an email to the registered email address (Password
Reset). The application can be closed without having to sign out (Sign Out), whilst on the
application Settings view () the registered email address can be changed (Email Reset), and
the account including all shared data can be deleted (Delete Account).
Connecting
To receive data from another user, the unique code of that user’s account must be connected
with a contact from the user’s contact list. Connected contacts are shown in the application
Contacts view, and the color of a connected contact shows the current status of the
connection:
•
Normal: the connected contact has not yet connected to your account.
•
Red: the connected contact data differs from the data in your contact list.
•
Green: the connected contact data matches the data in your contact list.
Connecting contacts takes place in the application Append view (). This view shows a field
(Gids) where the unique code of the other user can be entered. Using this code the user’s
contact list can be searched for possible matches (Lookup), whereafter found candidates are
shown in the view. Selecting the correct contact establishes the connection between the other
user and the contact in your contact list. Exchanging your unique code with another user can
be done simply by sharing a link using a variety of communication options (Share Link). The
receiving party can select this link to start the application, enter the code in the append view,
and activate the lookup function. Connected contacts can be disconnected again by swiping
the contact to the left and selecting the delete option (Delete).
